Inspiration and Design Ideas

As well as looking at the band's original album artwork we also looked at artwork for other media aimed at a similar audience.
The film "Reservior Dogs" has been a constant source of reference and inspiration for us as a group as we have used it when looking at shots and framing for our video too. We took ideas from the walking shots in the title scenes of the film for our narrative shots.
So we looked at the film's artwork which i have uploaded a copy of below:

Once again we liked the look of the predominantly black and white image with a splash of bright colour, connoting individualism and in the case of the image above; violence as the red connotes blood- hence the 18 rating of the film.

We also wanted to keep our ancillary task original by incorporating stills from our music video, which also combines the use of greyscale, desaturated shots with bright colour shots.

Ancillary Tasks-Inspiration

After completing our music video, we then moved on to considering our ancillary tasks, a magazine advert and the album artwork for our band. To start off we looked at the album artwork of the actual band itself to see what sort of image the band were trying to portray through their album.

Below are a few images of "The New Town Centres" album covers.

These two album covers are variations of the same album, i personally think that the cover below is a more obvious attempt at image portrayal that the cover above; the pinstripe suit and lapel shown in the image are indicative of a smartly dressed, well educated "smooth"  and cool character- one that a potential audience would aspire to be like. I also liked the green sepia effect over the image which gives the cover a "vintage appeal" this may connote that the band are aiming their music at either an older audience or a niche audience with interests in a more retro style of music. In this case "Rockabilly".
However, the backwards lettering and distinct font in the cover above also connotes a more niche audience and a band aiming to create an individual, creative image that an audience would recognise, like a trademark (not unlike the funky lettering "The Sex Pistols" are so well known for.) The "rough and ready" appearance of the background of the image also connotes a retro/vintage and well worn music genre.
